After searching far and wide for a nice, original feature to add a bit of texture to a wall, I stumbled across these wall sconces on ebay. They looked like they had potential, and were very reasonably priced which is always a bonus. When they arrived though, they were a bit too plastic and looked a little bit cheap…
Within minutes, I’d got my paints out and began to customise. In order to ensure maximum coverage, I coated the sconces with a primer first, and then started mixing my paint colour. I was after a warm-cement colour in an attempt to make these look like they were made from stone. Once the paint had dried, I used a light shade and dry brushed the highlights on.
When fixing to the wall, I didn’t bother getting an electrician in to install these in professionally. Instead I opted for a simple picture hook, and these brilliant rechargeable tea lights which can be popped inside the glass shades. (I found these on amazon, and would definitely recommend. The best thing about them is that they are remote controlled so you can switch them on and off at the click of a button! They even have an authentic candle flicker setting).
These really are cheap and easy to make, and receive so many compliments. I would highly recommend giving this little project a go…
